Sylvia Soumah West African Dance Teacher and Artistic Director of Coyaba Dance Theatre in D.C. taught Traditional West African classes at Kent Island and Queen Anne’s County High Schools

Sylvia Soumah, Founder and Artistic Director of Coyaba Dance Theatre in D.C. led a West African dance class at Kent Island High School in Stevensville on the morning of March 14. Amber Wright the Director of Dance at KIHS greeted Sylvia and her team. Before class her three professional drummers worked for 30 minutes with 5 percussion/band students who were welcomed to sit in and accompany the professional drummers during class.

Carole Cascio Fund Sponsors Our 6th Day of Dance on Stage in the John F Andrews Performing Arts Center at Queens Anne’s County High School in Centreville

On Saturday February 22, over 50 local dancers took classes on stage in the John F Andrews Performing Arts Center at Queen Anne County High School in Centreville. Ballet was taught by Lorraine Audeoud Spiegler a master teacher with the Washington Ballet in D.C. Our newly appointed CCF Teaching Artist, Amy Young-Kleinendorst taught a Paul Taylor Modern Dance class. Hip Hop was taught by our CCF Teaching Artist Adrienne Kraus Latanishen.

CCF sponsors a field trip for Queen Anne’s County Public School students to the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. to take a dance masterclass and to watch a company rehearsal with the world renowned Paul Taylor Dance Company

On February 27 CCF sponsored a field trip to the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. for students from Queen Anne’s County High School (QACHS) to take a free dance masterclass with Alex Clayton a member of the Paul Taylor Dance Company. On January 10, 2025, over 500 dancers from across Maryland gathered at Goucher College in Baltimore for the 35th Annual Maryland Public High School Dance Showcase (MPHSDS). CCF Teaching Artist Adrienne Kraus Latanishen taught a number of Hip Hop classes this fall in the Queen Anne’s County Public Schools and will choreograph at QACHS this Spring.

In August Carole Cascio Fund’s (CCF) Teaching Artist Adrienne Kraus Latanishen started her third year working for CCF visiting with Queen Annes County Public School (QACPS) teachers at their Personal Development day. CCF Intern Gabby Pfeifer had a very busy fall teaching, choreographing, and assisting in classes in the Queen Anne’s County Public Schools and will teach for the Partnering For Youth after-school program this Spring.

CCF Intern Gabby Pfeifer had a very productive fall season advocating for and facilitating various CCF events.
